Japan Media Arts honors Iranian short ‘Cellmate’

The Japan Media Arts Festival has presented an award to Iranian short title ‘Cellmate’.

The short title brought the Best Short Film Screenplay Award of the Japanese event to Solmaz Etemad.

The Iranian writer shared the award with three other winners.

Directed and produced by Iranian actor-turned-director Behzad Khodaveisi, the short film stars include Qorban Najafi and Saba Mohammadi.

The Japan Media Arts Festival is an annual festival held since 1997 by Japan's Agency for Cultural Affairs.

The festival begins with an open competition and culminates with the awarding of several prizes and an exhibition.

Its awards are given in four categories, including Art, Entertainment, Animation, and Manga.

The festival will announce its winners prior to its opening which will be on September 18.
